The biennial show, held in Frankfurt, is a worldwide reference in the chemical and petrochemical sector.
“The number of visitors has been massive since the very first day, despite the fact that it was the first time we attended”. This is how Alex Mas, Business Development Director, sums up Sugimat’s participation at Achema fair, the most important International Exhibition and Congress of Chemical Engineering, Environmental Protection and Biotechnology in Germany. At the event, held in Frankfurt from 11th to 15th June, Sugimat has been present with an information booth in Hall 5.1. “The fair has given us visibility in Germany and especially in the chemical sector, where our company has a much to contribute to, since we have a wide experience in the manufacture of backup boilers for solar thermal power plants. A know-how that allows us to operate with high temperature. Just what is needed in the chemical sector, “according to Mas.
In addition, on Friday, 15th June, the last day of the fair, a conference entitled “Efficient heat generation” was given by Miguel Martínez, Key Account Manager of Sugimat. Martínez explained how to apply the high efficiency technology used in thermal oil boilers in the solar thermal sector to process boilers in the chemical industry: a solution for process plants that reduces operating costs. Among the measures taken, Martínez highlighted the use of a heat recovery system which solves the problem of gas temperature by reducing it approximately 200º C. This means an increase of 7% in efficiency. “Including an air preheater in this type of plants reduces the gases temperature in the stack and the fuel consumption. Therefore, the efficiency is increased from 87 to 94%”, underlined Martínez.
Another measure taken to increase efficiency is the expansion of the exchange surface by manufacturing batteries adapted to each boiler. “Our boilers are characterized by an increased exchange surface aimed to achieve a low thermal load. This way it is possible to work better at high temperatures, extend the life of the oil and, therefore, the life of the boiler”, added Martínez.
More than 800 speakers have participated in this conference cycle that lasted a week and where topics such as reaction technology, energy supply or process design, among others, were addressed. Achema has had 3,700 exhibitors from 55 different countries who have chosen to showcase their latest developments in the sector.
This year Achema attracted a total of 145,000 attendees, some 21,000 fewer visitors than the previous edition held in 2015, which has made a dent in the organizers, who blamed the complex registration procedures. Despite these data, the event, organized by the Association for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology of Germany, DECHEMA, remains today a worldwide reference in the chemical and petrochemical sector.
For Sugimat, Germany is a very important market in its goal of international expansion, hence the participation in fairs as relevant as this one. This internationalization will be reinforced with the participation in “Timber Processing & Energy Expo”, which will take place from 17th to 19th October in Portland, Oregon (USA). It is a fair specialized in the wood industry and one of the most important in the sector.
